'Irish' out painting town green
There were a lot of drunken Irish people wandering around the city tonight. Okay, Irish 15 times removed but if they can wear a green top, then they're Irish. I was out at a friend's birthday dinner but in every bar were remnants of the start of St Patricks Week in Chicago.
Today was the
North Side parade, when the
river is dyed green and everyone pretends they're Irish. Tomorrow is what is considered to be the real deal on the
South Side. It is said that 15% of all American's tell of Irish ancestry and Chicago along with New England, Boston, New York and San Francisco has a big Irish influence.
Chicago has celebrated Paddy's day since 1843 and tonight and for the rest of this week green beer will be drunk in pubs, the river will have a greener look than normal and buildings downtown will have a green hue about them.
I need to go to bed because my indoor team are in the play-off finals tomorrow morning. A 9.30am semi-final game, followed by the final if we win. All this going on of course while the
Addicks play Middlesbrough. No
Malcolm Christie or
Tony Christie thank god, but lets hope Charlton can provide some entertainment.
